A busy 3 weeks

The past 3 weeks I have been quite busy, one of the projects Ive been working on is the kitchen layout for Somerset road in Harfield Village, it’s very small alterations that we are doing such as moving a wall here and there, we were under a bit of pressure to get the drawings out as soon as possible as they want to get the project on the road, the kitchen cupboard guys want to start as well, I think the final project will look quite nice.

A pump was required to get all the rain water out of the excavation
We have been keeping an eye on a project that is starting to get built after 5 years of fight with council and the client. The previous plans where approved for the project but we are still in the process of approving the updated ones. The clients wants a huge basement which he wants to use as storage. I have been on site a few times the past 2 weeks watching the excavation taking place; it’s a huge hole, quite incredible actually, really cool seeing the whole project going up from the start.  Here are some pics

The large basement which was excavated in 4 days!
They were starting to excavate for the footings of the basement

The machine that makes it all happen!
The past weeks of heavy rain have been a bit of worry but there’s been a pump onsite just in case. The current building that stands there has heritage value so the external skin needs to be preserved, that’s why designing for the client has been such an issue, as well as the property is not zoned as a business zoning but as a residential zoning which has added to the fights with the committee and council.

Another project Noel and I have been visiting a lot is the town houses on Princess road, its coming alone quite nicely, the 2nd floor is going on already, nearly ready for the roof.

The laying of precast concrete slabs, they rest ontop of the brickwork or in I beams
I beam clearly showing how the floor slab is supported

Berco has been another project that I’m mostly dealing with, there are fire regulations that the building doesn’t comply with, and as Berco is taking over majority of the half empty building its vital that the fire regulations comply. We went to visit the building the other day to see where there are fire hoses and extinguishers and also to see if it matches with what the plans from council says. Which is doesn’t. We are going to the fire chief sometime this week.
