Getting there..... :)

Hi there, well for the past week and a bit I’ve been doing touch ups on Noels daughters house in Kommetjie, his daughter is considering turning the garage into a teenage pad type thing with a little kitchen as well,  Should work out nice. The drawings are still in sketch plan phase. Here’s the ground floor plan with the converted garage:

I’ve also been working on the plans for council on the Glen Cairn project, its coming along, the main idea and layout of the drawings are all done including the boundary wall details it’s just the pergolas that need details added to it as it is bit more complex. We also have to look more in detail about how to baboon-proof the gutters and the so forth.

Going of the topic a bit, on the weekend my friends and I were on our way to De Hoek near Gouda, anyway we got terribly lost, went through the tunnel and landed up in Worster instead of wellington, woops but we stopped and took a pic of this pretty cool church we found while lost so here it is….

Anyway, chat soon…..

Site visits:)

Hi guys

The past week and a half Ive been on site a lot, they are building a few town houses town the road from where I work and Noel was involved in the planning. The construction is going up fast and its really cool to be on site. Ive seen 2 different cranes on site working from this tiny side street, one wrong move and theres big trouble.

The awesome crane

Precast concrete stairs

The end result

The whole building is suspended over the basement

Precast concrete floor slabs

The water pump required as the basement is under water level

Such a cool crane

I beam rests ontop of the walls

The slab fitting into the I beam

Ive watched them out the 2nd floor on the building using precast concrete slabs, ive seen the put an eyebeam across the tope of the wall and insert the 2nd floor slab ends into the eye beam, theres alot of things Ive alreday learnt just from being on site this past week. Here some pics to show my excitement!

BuZZiness!

wow its been a crazy week and a bit.....
Ive been working on a few projects at the moment. Last week it started off with doing double story alterations for my Bosses daughters house in Kommetjie, I had to alter plans elevations and sections that a previous student did. We changed the roof slopes and added some modern roof lights that are situated just under the eaves of the roof. it is a very exciting project as I can get creative and it like my own little project. It going to be her wedding gift from Noel my Boss so its quite sweet.... Ill upload pics proper pics of the project later on in the week but here a pic so long....

Ive also been working on a house in Oxford street, the owners want to do minor changes such as adding an outdoor/indoor area and changing the kitchen around.... I had to draw the plans from a hand drawn sketch Noel gave me, not all the dimensions where there and the passage is at an angle that didn't match up with the dimensions so we will have to go measure up again.... This is the sketch he gave me:

Another new project I have been working on the past 2days is the original plans of Banana Jam in Kenilworth. The original plans are all completely wrong so we had to go measure up..... BUT my boss has a very interesting way of measuring, he just went and took photos then he measured the tile sizes in each room. Then he counted the tiles and measures each room accordingly.... Well I did..... He gave me the sketch of the plan with tile numbers instead of dimensions which I then had to convert and draw up the whole plan accordingly, quite interesting! Here's a pic of the plan with the tile numbers:

Banana Jam just wants to go a story above the smoking area to create a more of a night life pub they also want to increase the kitchen size and add some office space, the problem is is that its a heritage building that has alot of limits that cannot be done and also alot of the building cannot be removed so we need to see where this is going to go.

OK well I'm going to try upload the work that Ive done rather than pictures this week sometime its just been a busy week. Cheers!!!
